About Us

The history of Rollins Furniture dates back 1956. At the time, Clarence and Doris Rollins were operating a chicken farm. The state of Maine was in the process of building the turnpike and the route went through the Rollins’ property. As the turnpike went through, Clarence soon realized that the chickens were affected and egg production started to decline. Faced with a dilemma, Clarence took the advice of a friend and started selling furniture and small appliances. Considering the fact that neither Clarence nor Doris had any experience in the field, this was not the most logical choice. However, illogical as the choice may have been, what followed was remarkable success story.

What would become a tremendous success had very humble beginnings. In the first year of business, Clarence sold only a few pieces. However humble the start was, it spawned into a family business that thrives today.

Rollins has always been a family driven – their family helping yours. After Clarence suffered a heart attack in 1961, his son Merlin joined the business. His sister Beverly joined in 1971. Together they decided to carry on their father’s vision and grown the business. Now over thirty years later the third generation, Kevin Rollins is following in his fathers footsteps to continue this grandfather’s vision. Today, Kevin tries to take part in every aspect of the business, from sales to delivering the furniture and any other duties that need to be done.

There is a formula for staying in business; a store needs to offer a good quality product at a good price followed by good service. It would seem that Rollins has perfected that formula. Here in Maine we have a special customer. Because we work hard for our money, we want to make every dollar count. The people at Rollins know that – which is why they only stock furniture from makers such as Flexsteel, Chatham Reproductions, Temple, Tom Seely, and many others.

Great quality is only part of the equation. The best quality merchandise does not count for much if there is no service to back it up. The staff at Rollins knows this; they know how to treat customers. They know that as Mainers we want to be treated right. “Quality and Service,” those are the watchwords that all employees live by.
